A Color-Coded Christmas

With Christmas Eve fast approaching, I thought I’d share a quick tip for keeping organized when you’ll be toting gifts to multiple holiday celebrations. First, start with a variety of wrapping paper. Then designate a pattern for each gift pile based however it most makes sense to segregate your gifts.

Stay organized this Christmas by designating wrapping paper patterns for each location or recipient

Traveling to multiple locations? Choose one wrapping paper pattern for each destination. No travel plans in your holiday schedule? Then give designating a pattern for each person a try. This trick is especially good if you have young non-readers in the house. We’ve used this in the past with Mischief and Mayhem, and they loved being able to identify which gifts were theirs and to help with passing them all out. Nowadays they are WAY into seeing their names on things, so we’ve gone back to a simpler system which has one paper for the in-laws, another for my family celebration, and third for the gifts we will open at home.

It can be tempting to use up all those odd-shaped scraps, but the ease with which we can load up the car on our way out the door and the extra insurance it provides in preventing us from accidentally leaving someone’s gift behind are worth it!

How about you? What are your secrets for keeping it all together at this blessed but busy time of year?
